I was sifting through some older files today and came across these gems and just had to share! Isn't she beautiful? Heather's wedding was 2 years ago, but her images can still stop me in my tracks. I guess looking back at a portrait session that was years ago also makes me think about why I do what I do as a Portrait Artist and how it all becomes possible to capture someone and create a lasting memory for them. It is a great pleasure to be able to be trusted with people's memories.
I also want to just share my ultimate goal in creating artwork. It is to portray them in a way that becomes timeless and classic with flattering lighting while at the same time maintaining a fresh and modern approach. That is my style..Modern, Timeless + Fresh. How is it modern? I watch trends and make sure that my imagery is in line with trends. However, I always try to use classical lighting patterns so that I flatter my subject. So, even though I use classic lighting patterns, I still try to keep things fresh by doing new things and maybe in a way that I haven't seen before. My approach to image making involves so many steps that are in my head and I just wanted to share a bit of my thought process for image making. Texture, color, scene setting, lens selection, lighting style, dof, where the image will be displayed, how it will be displayed, finishing of the portrait, posing, etc...are just some of the items that go through my head during a photo shoot. For me, it's not just about the first step of taking the portraits. It's a complete process that involves idea conception through to finished art work.
Photographs are so powerful and meaningful yet many don't realize the value of them until after they have been taken. Whew...that was long and I hope I didn't bore any of you too much. I know I don't typically write much on my blog and usually just let the photos speak because I am a pretty private person who doesn't like to put myself out there a lot. I feel so strongly about having a beautiful photograph of yourself or your family or from an important event in life that it's time I put my voice out there and wrote something of substance on my blog. Our portraits at Kristi Sheriff Photography are about leaving a legacy and being able to cherish your memories in style.
